A Morning in Lanzhou

Chase and Marissa are moving into a leadership position amongst their team of teachers In their Chinese home town of Boaji (bow-jee). There are about 15 people that would like to come to China to teach, so Chase and Drew (the original leader of the team) have been traveling from city to city to look for new teaching positions. In the morning Chase had to go and visit a school so Maggs and I met with some friends of a friend who showed us around Lanzhou.

This is Mr. Wong and Ms. Feung... They took us to see this bridge that was built by the French and the US in 1908. It is just one year younger than the state of Oklahoma.

We are grateful to Mr. Wong and Ms. Feung because they taught us how to count in Chinese while showing us around the city.

After the bridge we walked over to a sort of mountain with several sacred places on it. We think it is called Five Springs Park but we couldn't be sure.
The Entrance...

There are probably as many stairs as there are beautiful things to see. Here is another smaller entrance to a temple that has a waterfall behind it.

In this temple was a HUGE bell that Nick wanted to ring...

But when He saw that it might be a bell to ring to praise Budha, he refrained.

Here is a picture of burning incense

And we think this is a tea kettle for a giant...

At the top of the mountain Maggie found the "Pavilion for a Breather" sign, as Nick points out below.

We cant tell you how happy we were to be able to take a breather...

After our breather, we made our way down the mountain with Mr. Wong and Ms. Feung.

The next stop was Borden Memorial Hospital that was founded by Christian Missionaries and named after Borden in the early 1900s. This is the same Borden whose family sells milk. Borden went to Yale and Princeton and died at the age of 25. You can read more about his story from our friends at Wikipedia here:

Unfortunately we didn't get a good picture of the hospital but we did get a picture of this sign that says "God Loves People" written in Chinese.
